WELCOME TO AIS
Striving towards excellence in holistic education to build independent thinkers, compassionate young people and lifelong learners
Our History
AIS is the only English-speaking, fully-accredited IB World School offering the PYP and MYP programmes in global education for students aged 3-16 in Aarhus.
Founded in 2011
Aarhus International School (AIS) formerly known as Aarhus Academy for Global Education (AAGE), was first set up in Bushøjvænget in Højbjerg as a private day school for international families, accommodating a handful of students. Since then, AIS has expanded to the centre for global IB education in the heart of Aarhus, with the move of the primary and middle school to Dalgas Avenue, and the opening of the One Campus in 2024 that united all three departments at the Dalgas Campus, expanding student capacity to up to 600.
Accredited IB school in 2016
As an IB World school, both the Middle Years Programme (January 2016) and the Primary Years Programme (June 2016) are fully authorized. AIS is also recognized by the Danish educational authorities as it complies with Danish requirements for international schools.
More about us
Early Years
In the Early Years Programme at AIS, our aim is to provide the best possible learning experiences for young children (3-6yrs) and to lay the foundations for all future learning. With a focus on investigation, play, language and social skill development, the Early Years programme works to prepare students emotionally, socially and intellectually for the more formal environments of the upper PYP. We place a heavy focus on skill development to support each learner’s developing independence and self-confidence, as they work to have a voice in their own learning.
Primary Years
The IB Primary Years Programme caters to students from PYP4-PYP8 (International Grades 1-5; Dansk 0. til 4. klasse) and focuses on the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside the school doors. The PYP is an internationally minded, transdisciplinary programme designed to develop well-balanced and thoughtful learners. We focus on the total growth of the child, encompassing physical, social/emotional and cultural development. Beyond the school day, After School Activities are offered to provide ongoing care and a wide range of extracurricular activities.
Middle Years
At AIS, the MYP caters to students from MYP1 to MYP5 (International Grades 6 to 10; Dansk 5. til 9. klasse) and aims to provide them with a broad, balanced, comprehensive and transferable education. We offer an IB Middle Years Programme, as well as a programme of extracurricular activities as enrichment. When AIS students graduate from the school, they are able to move into a wide variety of upper-secondary options, including the IB Diploma Programme, and local Danish upper-secondary options.
