Take a sneak peek into the new library space, as it opens in the new OneCampus building

“A book holds a house of gold”, according to the famous Chinese proverb, and with our new library, we have an emperor’s palace full of richness with over 12,000 books ready to be read and borrowed.

Our new OneCampus is the gift that keeps on giving, and with this brand-new addition of the new library space, we are really excited to start exploring. Staff and students alike could visit the new library from Monday this week, and see all the hard work that had gone into making it a little Narnia’s world of imagination and wonder.

Reading and encouraging good reading habits is an important part of developing lifelong learners and lovers of books. It is important for us as a school that students have the time in their schedules to explore the shelves of the library, to read books they find fun or exciting or interesting, and not purely for the purpose of learning and academia. Every class in the EY and PYP departments have a dedicated library lesson for free reading and borrowing, and MYP students have a dedicated reading homeroom morning, and can come to the space in their breaks for quiet reading.

Having a brand-new space means that we can modernise and improve the library to better meet the needs of our students. The new space, just off the atrium, is now in the heart of the school, with a brighter and more open feel to show its importance to everyday school life. Moreover, the library is implementing more widespread smarter services to help make check out and check in of books easier, as well as borrowable spare computer devices to help support students throughout the school day.

As amazing and as thrilled we are to have this new space, none of this would have been possible without our fantastic and brilliant school librarian, Ms Taryn who spent many weeks packing and moving boxes, using the school holidays to set up the new shelves and get the library ready for use as quickly as possible. We are also very grateful to all the parents, staff and student volunteers who helped Ms Taryn. It was a huge task to move and revamp an entire library, but it is thanks to the generosity and support of the community throughout the school that this was achievable and finished on time.

Next week we are looking forward to hosting the first Book Fair in the new library, as well as the many other library events that happen throughout the year including Bookopoly and Book Week.
