With roses, champagne and speeches, Aarhus International School officially opens the new One Campus in an inaugural ceremony
In June 2022, the official press conference was held to announce the beginning of the One Campus construction. This project was estimated to last 2 years, expanding the school capacity to up to 600 students, with a brand new kindergarten and MYP building that could boast modern and appropriate facilities, and enable an international IB education in one campus for students aged 3 through 16, in the heart of Aarhus. As Aarhus is a growing centre of international business in Denmark, the need for an international school was essential to meet the demands of expat workers.
On Thursday 22nd August, AIS officially unveiled these new buildings and opened this new campus, in the presence of distinguished guests, sponsors and speakers. Head of school, Robert McCluskey welcomed guests, followed by speeches from Jacob Bundsgaard, Mayor of Aarhus, Niclas Kvernrød, Chair of the AIS Board, and Ebbe Malte Iversen, Chair of the AIS Ejendomsforening.
In addition to the speeches, there was also a special performance by the AIS MYP2 choir, singing the school song – a song that they composed themselves along with school choirmaster and music teacher, Cameron Zingel Amdisen, which was performed at the initial press conference back in 2022. This was then followed by the planting of roses by Mrs Salling, an echo to the tree that was planted when the school first moved to Aarhus C in 2011.
The formal opening was then followed by an AIS community opening on Friday 23rd August, where all students, staff and families at AIS were invited to celebrate a family afternoon with tours, ice cream, scavenger hunts and fun for all.
With the opening of the new school buildings, AIS was able to open its doors to 140 new students across the EY, PYP and MYP departments, hiring 20 new staff, bringing our student total to around 450 and our staff to over 100. The amazing and above average (nationally and internationally) IB exam results of our graduating MYP 5 class will also enhance the growing high achievement of the school, with dedicated and experienced staff to guide and support academic excellence.
We are also very pleased to announce that in partnership with Villum Fonden and their donation of 10 million kroner, a second project is now underway to improve and update our existing PYP department to meet the same modern standards as our new buildings.
